Design – Lead Architect
Responsibilities:
The Lead Architect provides leadership of technical discipline and directs the day to day operational activities of any assigned Architecture Group staff.
The Lead Architect may be called upon to assist senior management in the delivery of target gross margin profits of the department, managing staffing activities, including opportunities to assist with recruiting, retention, development of department staff, and opportunities to help manage department revenue growth and labor efficiency.
Project-Wise, the Lead Architect works independently on various projects as assigned by the Architecture Department. He/she may oversee the entire design process or assist as a technical expert on a specialized design.
The Lead Architect may work on several concurrent projects. When leading a project team environment, the Lead Architect will supervise his/her team members which may consist of Senior Architects, Junior Architects, Architectural Designers among other engineering design disciplines
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures the quality, accuracy, and completeness of overall work as to engineering, compliant with established the Company’s standards, procedures, codes, and ordinances.
Primary responsible individual for quality of unit output related to adherence to stated project goals as well as legal and guidelines and efficiency. (Accountability / Quality / Technical Standards Guidelines)
Contributes technical input and oversees technical output of department and/or assigned group staff to assure compliance with legal, regulatory, and project requirements.
Protects corporate welfare through application of prudent judgment and implementation of risk management techniques while maintaining supervision over all health, safety, and welfare risks associated with the group staff projects. (Risk Management / Judgment)
Develops and assures implementation of standards and tools to ensure department output, meets or exceeds established quality and performance expectations. (Standards / Quality)
When called upon, provides oversight of manpower planning of unit resources and administer technical staff to assure efficient assignment of resources on multiple, concurrent projects. (Resources)
When called upon, supports Human Resource personal, including recruitment, retention, and developing staffing plans to meet forecast labor and skills required to meet business plan.
Supervises designers and architects and ensures that all employees within the department are properly managed, trained, and are provided career path opportunities.
Instills a positive work environment and facilitates effective staff development efforts. (Staffing / Recruit /Retain /Training)
Communicates staffing levels regularly with all levels of management at the Company. (Communication)
Prepares proposals for service and supports preparation of proposals by others.
Supports business development with presentations and related marketing activities. (Business Development)
Assesses the requirements of a project, breaks a project into tasks, and works with a Project Manager to determine scope of work, budget and staffing.
Corrects and updates design documents and develops solutions to design problems.
Reviews drawings and documents to assure compliance with company, regulatory agencies, and production standards.
Provides oversight for architectural construction administration activities such as preparing bulletins, construction sketches, submittal review, and RFI responses, as well as performing on-site observations and field support when called upon.
Ability to develop Conceptual and Preliminary “BOD” write-ups based on client meetings.
Knowledge of applicable building codes. Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required.
Assigns and reviews work of the project design team. Checks progress of work and alerts Project Manager to change of scope or additional services.
Capable of recognizing design support abilities of team and empowering those to have opportunities to elevate their design capabilities through my challenging assignments.
Ensures project specifications are delivered with company quality standards and are delivered on time as required by the client.
Has comprehensive knowledge of building design including both building and GMP cleanroom compliance experience.
Demonstrates the ability and interest to develop conceptual ideas to present to clients during proposal presentations.
Researches equipment selection from catalogs as needed for the project.
Ensures acceptable levels of quality and checks for coordination of work to assure documents reflect design intent and necessary coordination.
Coordinates architectural design work with related engineering disciplines. Attends job and construction meetings and participates in the coordination of the work.
Assists the design team with design solutions by having the ability to interpret drawing mark-ups and executes changes on the project based on such mark-ups.
Reviews contractor application for payments. Has a thorough understanding of construction process.
Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10+ years of diversified architectural experience, at least 8 years of which have been in a supervisory or management capacity consisting of planning, designing and construction of engineering projects.
Bachelor Degree; Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree with NAAB Accreditation required, AIA/NCARB Membership/Accreditation preferred.
Architectural Registration Required, must be capable and willing to uphold “responsible control” over other’s work if the Company’s AoR is not available to do so.
+8 years of Life Sciences Industry experience required.
Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.
Analytical thinking, structured problem-solving skills, superior communications skills, team building and strong work ethic.
Must be able to build rapport with department staff.
Exceptional experience and knowledge of process, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, plumbing, fire protection system design, and knowledge of how these systems integrate into architectural design.
Possess a general understanding of BIM workflows.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY
Travel duration, if any, is based on project complexity and location.
This position is a safety sensitive position.
The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research or other “non-administrative” areas.
